Where can 3D printable files be found?

The Mantis is capable of 3D printing files in the .STL format. These files can be made by users using free computer aided design software such as fusion 360 (https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/students-teachers-educators) or users can download free designs from the internet. There are many websites that share free 3D printable designs for anyone to use, we personally recommend www.thingiverse.com.

What material does the Mantis use to print?

The recommended material for the Mantis is 1.75mm PLA Filament. PLA (Polylactic Acid) is a readily available, non-proprietary, safe and environmentally friendly bioplastic made from renewable natural resources. The Mantis is capable of using other plastics with melting temperatures less than 300°C.

What are the technical specifications for the Mantis?

The Mantis is a material extrusion 3D printer with a single bowden style extruder, heated bed, part cooling capabilities. Additionally, the Mantis has an open source architecture and is capable of building parts as large as 8” x 8” x 6”.

What is included when you purchase a Mantis?

The Mantis ships with everything you need to get started; a fully assembled Mantis, a spool of PLA filament, and an accessory kit with tools and supplies.

If the Mantis is so easy to use, doesn’t that defeat the purpose of teaching people the technical side of 3D Printing?

The "easy" part of the Mantis revolves around our simplistic graphical user interface. Super-users who like to tweak all the traditional 3D printing variables can turn simply turn off the easy to use portion and use the Mantis in the same way as any other desktop 3D printer.

Offering the best of both worlds allows the Mantis to draw users in with ease of use but then allow them to continue growing their technical knowledge as they begin their Additive Manufacturing journey.
